The most anticipated PAN world film of SS Rajamouli upcoming magnum opus “Varanasi” (formerly known as SSMB 29) is one of the most worth waiting movies of the year. Following by the recent interview, the director SS Rajamouli had stated that the 50% of the film shooting had completed upto the February 2026. According to the film circles rumor’s ,the directed had put an end to the misleads that Varanasi is the standalone film and not a two parts saga film. The film is expected to wrap up the shoot by June 2026 following an hectic visual graphics work and extension post-production work.
Intriguing Technical details:
The film is noted for its historic technical achievement, that the Varanasi movie is the first Indian and Non-English language film that was entirely shot particularly in the 1.43:1 IMAX Aspect ratio. It was the major big thing happened to the Indian movies comparing to the previous years films so far. The cameras used in the movie are Arri Alexa and IMAX Digital cameras. Sound Mixing designing by IMAX 6-Track. Cinematography by P.S.Vinod, Music Composition by M.M.Keeravani, VFX Supervisor by Srinivasa Mohan.
Film’s Budget and VFX Department:
Currently, the film’s VFX designing is handling by couple of companies particularly naming Double Negative (Dune and Oppenheimer fame) DNEG, The Embassy and Prime Focus and Moving Picture Company (MPC) known for the Lion King and 1917 following the leading domestic studios like Makuta VFX and Red Chillies VFX for shaping up of ancient Kashi village are boarded on this auspicious project. The movie budget was approximately ₹1,000 to ₹1,400 crore (US$120 – ₹165 Million) probably this is one of the most expensive films has ever produced in Indian origin.
Locations of the Film:
The film revolves under different dimensions of timelines form 512 CE to the years of 2027 and 7200. 90% shooting of the film was done in real international locations to achieve the originality and realism for the film. Shot in the locations of Antarctica, Kenya, Tanzania, Georgia and Odhisha. Due to the current logistical challenges the makers have built a Varanasi city replica in Hyderabad RFC aka Ramoji Film City with ₹50 crores for that authentic cultural people look and Ghats near the rivers and for the ancient architecture.
Producers and Digital Rights:
The film is produced by K.L. Narayana under the banner of Durga Arts and Karthikeya son of Rajamouli is one of the line producer for the film. Netflix is dealing a proper negotiable deal for the film and the deal is valued between ₹650 crore and ₹1,000 crore. This is one of the biggest digital rights acquisition deal in the history of Indian cinema surpassing the previous record held by Pushpa 2: The Rule.
